failed cadel

I’m trying to use other metallic plates than zinc ones to engrave cadels letters. This time, a bit of “I don’t know what” previously used as a lid of a cigar box.

the pinkish hue is not totally uninteresting but as the varnish started to unstick after a few minutes in the acid bath, I had to stop the experiment.
Maybe anoter try soon with another kind of varnish ??

Man hole cover

Those of you who follow me on facebook already know about my appetence for man hole cover pictures. I’ve decided to recreate these graphic objects into more portable shapes, here is a pic of the first step of the creation of a pattern on zinc that will be used to emboss a paper in order to create a man hole cover design.

I don’t know whether the final thing will be worth it but I already love this pic, don’t you ?

Vine on copper : fail

I already told you about the beginning of my first try in engraving a plate of copper. Here are the next steps with, at first, the plate after a few weeks in contact with vinegar.

Everything was going well, I decided to remove the varnish and then washed the palte with water and soap to remove the last traces of white spirit. And suddenly, no oxyd any more 🙁
No more blue, no more green, evrything disappeared in the cleaning :-((

We still can see the pattern but that’s at all the result I counted on. Just have to do it again…

Carpe diem

I wanted to use rust in conjunction with engraving. It’s now done with this short quotation from the Odes by Horatius. I think, I’ll do other works using this technique, I really like the result.

First, I engraved the slate and second, I added some filings and then waited for rust to do its job. Once happy with it, I varnished the whole to freeze the development.

You can see another detail here, to see the whole work, it’s there.

Rust

After playing quite a lot with zinc, I’m now experimenting steel as a medium for calligraphy.
Here is my first try almost correct of a cadel letter.

Next time, I’ll have to better sand the surface and to adjust the edges as the varnish is too sticky to get clean contours on the first stroke.

Brooch

Christmas Eve has passed, one can now open the presents.
And in the box, this is what can be found.

This is my second try in jewellery after the bracelet. This brooch is 3.5cm in diameter and is made of zinc, varnished then engraved using acid.
The white vine pattern is my creation and I added a cabochon of slate.
I’m quite happy with it and so seems the person who received it 🙂
