Break

It’s tiring to go from page to page in a manuscript to collect the initials, study them so as to reproduce them and finally copy them so as to transmit them.
So, I take a little break on the Lindisfarne Gospel and I come back to my marotte, the filigree initials.

SEP en scène

After about twenty hours of work on the final version and almost half for the preparatory work, I finished the fragment of the play “SEP en scène” (Multiple Sclerosis on Stage) by Isabelle Janier.
The piece chosen is the end of the play, a message of hope for all those affected by this disease, which is still incurable today.

Above all, the culmination of a life is to live.
I would like to thank Ms. Janier for entrusting me with the script of her play and I hope that she will enjoy what I have done with it.

M etc

Very few time this weekend to work on my ongoing projects, not to mention the cold & the rain.

So I drew an initial…

with filigrees…

those of you who follow this blog would have noticed that the filigree pattern is almost identical to the one used here.
And if you didn’t notice, who cares ? 😉

Symbols

After the latin alphabet, after the greek alphabet, I’m using more esoteric symbols to create little works with filigrees.
And I stopped using wallnut stain to do the whole work with my home made ferro-gallic ink.

One of the symbols used for arsenic in alchemical manuscripts :

And a stylized fleur de lys

As for the symbols shapes, I found my inspiration in the very good (even if too short) book by Rudolf Koch, The Book of Signs.

Inked circles

Some tries for a project that may be stillborn if I consider the enthusiasm I feel when looking at the results (or maybe I just should try harder).

Some circles are not too bad, here are a few close-ups to show the ones I prefer

What about you ? Do you like some of them ?
