rust & vine

After quite a long time under the rain, followed by a scraping, more rain and a final sanding, I still can’t get the expected result from the plate I already told you about here.

It’s not bad, it’s just that I was waiting for something else.

I think it will go back to rust in the garden 🙂

varnish & etching done

I have finished (at last !) to remove the varnish from my metal plate so as the white (well black for the moment) vine to show up.

As the next step was the etching, I put the plate in the acid bath immediately.

Unfortunately, it remained too long in the acid and the result, even if interesting, is not what I expected it to be.

We’ll see whether the next step will improve it or not 🙂

Some days ago, I showed you a draft of a white vine. It is now transfered to a metal plate, still a lot of work to do but there is some progress.

A small initial decorated with white vine, I’m happy with the shape of the vine but the gilding was difficult, I don’t practise enough.

Still have to remove the varnish from more than a half of the pattern, with no guarantee at all on the result. It’s part of the calligrapher’s joys 🙂

Paperweight

Spring has come, we can work with the windows open. But beware of the breeze which tease the stacks of paper !
To avoid inopportune brewings, here is the solution : the paperweight

Vine on zinc

Part of an ongoing project, a white vine pattern on zinc, engraved with acid.

Ce circle is approximatively 4cm in diameter

Black vine

Work in progress, a “white vine” on metal. I just drew the lines on the varnish, now have to remove the varnish (long & difficult task) before putting the plate in the acid.

And I ask to myself : isn’t it better to leave it as it is ? I like it this way …
