It’s a bit trendy, isn’t it?

In any case, while I was emptying my boxes, I found a version of chapter 12 of the Apocalypse made a few years ago.

There is rustica and uncial for the Latin version, the French version is in carolingian.

And there is colour, too much for my taste, which is why this work sleeps in a drawer.

The course not to be missed !

On the 17th and 18th of October, I’ll teach a course on the second bible of Charles the Bald (writing and decoration) at the cultural centre of Welkenraed.

Originally planned for April of this year, it could not take place because of the pandemic.

There are still places available (with masks and distances) for fans.

So if you don’t want to be the one who doesn’t get the fries in the same package, contact the cultural centre quickly to register!

I can’t wait to go back to Belgium and eat those crispy fries, whatever the package 😉

Ars Longa

It’s a tired old saying, but it’s nonetheless true.
And it’s also my way of telling why I haven’t posted for far too long.

I first took part in the book fair in Montreuil-Bellay, with courses given before and after the fair, then I got back home and, since then, I’ve been working on the next courses I’m going to teach, the first on the list abroad being the one on the second bible of Charles the Bald in Welkenraedt next April.

So here’s a reinterpretation of the decorated capital letters that will be taught during the course (I still have to create the minuscule model so don’t expect any new posts in the near future).

Solitude and society

On the weekend of 18 & 19 April 2020, I will teach a workshop at the Welkenraedt Cultural Centre. It will be devoted to the writing and part of the decoration of the second Bible of Charles the Bald.
I worked on this manuscript more than 10 years ago and, in preparation for the workshop, I am getting back to it and trying some variations (especially of hues) based on a text by Seneca.

Decorated capital letters and original text with walnut stain, French translation into a later writing in iron gall ink.

New course in the workshop

It has been too long since I offered an internship in my studio, so I invite you to join me for a course on a 9th century script from a manuscript from Landévennec Abbey over 2 days, followed by an introduction to Celtic decoration.

All this will take place from August 3 to 5, 2019, possibility to do only the two days of calligraphy if you are only available on weekends.
The price is 50€ per day, 100€ for calligraphy and 150€ if you also want to acquire the basics of Celtic decoration.
For more information and to book, please contact me by email or phone, all my contact details are available on the contact page of my website.
