Here is a fragment from Thus spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche that I really like.
I wanted to give rise to the first word of the text, thus I drew it from a typography and made it half embossed, half engraved on metal.

The remaining part of the text is calligraphied with a fraktur, I felt it was the accurate script for it.

I told you recently about an embossing I intented to use within a calligraphic work, here is the result.
I’m not happy with it… at all. I’ll have to try something else.
Moon
First try with embossing on an old plate of zinc with a carbon paper between it an the embossed paper.
I’m quite happy with it, I intend to complete it with a fragment from the Satiricon by Petronius, the bit that starts with : “As when, in the sleep-bringing night dreams sport with the wandering eyes …”
XIIth century initials as XXIst works
Quite happy with the result produced by the combination of embossing and ink experimented on Julien Gracq’s text, I decided to reedit the experience with initials copied from XIIth century French manuscripts.
This time I used walnut stain instead of India ink and I find the result just as interesting, judge for yourself.
